INTERNSHIPS
Turner and Townsend, Harare, Zimbabwe
January 19th - 28th / June 15th - 26th, 2015
(4 weeks - 160 hours).
I Spent January getting to know the office and shadowing the older QS’s. My time was mainly spent capturing bending schedules data on excel and doing basic measures on simple residential developments.
I was introduced to DimX in June and was taught the basics of the program briefly by colleagues in the office. I was also involved with hand measurements of the structural frame of the Eastgate shopping mall extension in the Harare CBD.
After that I went to a couple of different sites with one of the young project managers in the office. I sat in site meetings with him and was exposed to the various issues that are inherent to the construction industry and how each issue was tackled and overcome by the professional team.
Turner and Townsend, Harare, Zimbabwe
January 13th - 27th/June 27th - July 12th, 2016
(4 weeks - 160 hours)
I spent January measuring Matetsi Lodge, in Victoria Falls, that was at development stage. The drawings were very simplistic so had to make a lot of assumptions throughout my measurements. I went through my measurements with my director and he rectified where I went wrong. I spent June helping him and my colleagues go out to tender on the Eastgate shopping mall project. I helped out with the measurement where I could. I also sat in a few meetings with potential clients who wanted to expand their company by building a new retail warehouse on the outskirts of Harare.
Glenwood Park Development, Harare, Zimbabwe
June and December 2014
(4 weeks)
This is a development of middle to high-class residential town houses in one of the less-urban suburbs of Harare. I spent both periods working on site, shadowing
the site foreman as well as the contractor. I had responsibilities to ensure that all materials required where delivered to site on time and that the builders where busy during working hours.
Shamrock Investments, Lusaka, Zambia
(Townhouse complex)
December 1st - 5th, 2014
I spent a week in Zambia working under a property developer. I was physically involved in the measuring and building of a septic tank. I worked with a fellow peer from University of Cape Town along with the site foreman and one other general worker. This gave me hands on experience and allowed me to appreciate the difficulties experienced in the execution of builder’s work.
JG Construction, Harare, Zimbabwe
June 10th - July 4th, 2013
(3 weeks - 120 hours)
I spent three weeks on various building sites around Harare. I was responsible for being the foreman’s “right hand man” dealing with any issues that arose on site.
ABES Community Building Project, Tembaletu School, Gugulethu, Cape Town
September 2nd - September 6th, 2013
(1 week - 40 hours)
I spent the week as a student volunteer along with the rest of my class, helping improve the standards of a disabled children’s school in Gugulethu. We were involved in repainting and basic refurbishments of the school to enhance the learning environment for the children.

Foreign English Teaching - (Gap Year)
Hanoi, Vietnam

March - November 2018
I worked as an English teacher for both kindergarten and primary school children. Throughout the year I demonstrated project management skills while planning and executing daily lesson plans.
